Major Project - Blanket Arm Test & Previs Progress #7

I did a test of how the arm could work, I used a spline IK and a lattice to create this quick test. It seems to be working alright for what I need and the set up is pretty simple. I will move onto creating the actual arm next and then add it all to the previs!

I did some designs for the arm/hand that will be attacking the boy. I wanted it to feel more like a blanket and more cloth like. I think number 3 - 5 are working for me, its thin side on and had buttons where the knuckles are to attach the fingers. being thin it should wrap around the boy nicely!

I made a few tweaks and did a test animation of the mouth in flash for the sighing scene, it proved slightly difficult to start with but I quickly got the hang of it and overall I think it added a lot of life to the sigh.

Minor Project - Bed Spider Design

I need to figure out how the 'shark' bed looks next, as it will never be seen I will be focusing on its mass as opposed to a fully fleshed out design.

Minor Project - Boy Expressions #1

The first batch of expressions for the boy, so I will be more prepared for Maya I made sure I kept all the elements on separate layers. I also have been thinking that the boys eyebrows will be geometry as opposed to drawing them on.

Minor Project - Bed and Parent Thumbnails

I followed Phil's advice with the bed and this is how it's looking at the moment, I think 24 is my favourite. I put a boy for scale, the bed obviously needs to be huge so it is more monstrous.

I tried to make the parents belong to the world more than the last batch, I think 7 or 8 are working for me.

Minor Project - Bed Thumbnails #3

I did a few more thumbnails for the bed, 19, 20 and 22 are starting to work for me. I quite like the eyes being at the back as it makes the front look more menacing in my opinion.

Minor Project - Parent and Bed Thumbnails #1

Today I did some thumbnails for the parents and the bed, It was decided that the parents will only be legs as they aren't in the story much and it is more effective than me modelling full parent characters.

Minor Project - Boy Thumbnails #4

I tried some variations for the boy's pyjamas, I like D, F and J

I drew influence from 1950's Pyjamas, here is my influence map:

Minor Project - Boy Thumbnails #2

These are all starting to be more appealing in my opinion, I played around with proportions and tried to give it a 50's vibe (lots of stripes). There are quite a few I'm fond of: 24, 29, 30 and 31 I would say are my favourites.

Minor Project - Boy Thumbnails #1

I decided to sketch up some ideas for the boy character, I don't think any of these are my boy yet but I will keep jotting down ideas.

@Alan Tutorial Character - Mouth and Eye Shapes

I tried making the hair slightly clearer, hopefully that is helpful for modelling. I also did some basic eye and mouth shapes, I wasn't sure if you wanted them extracted from the character or drawn as above (it made more sense for me to draw them with the face to get a better understanding of if they worked).

If you need any changes or any additional things let me know, I'm off on holiday on Friday so I will try to get anything done before then.

@Alan Tutorial Character Orthographic

I did the orthographic and 3/4 view on the same page so it is easier to reference, I hope this is alright and is working for you.

I will work on expressions next and should have them posted soon!

@Alan Character Colour Variation

I think they both work, I'm still quite fond of the orange one however the yellow one is slightly more friendly.

@Alan Character Designs

I did some more sketches using number 5 from my initial sketches as the base, I tried to add a sporty theme and make the character more obviously female.

For me 1 and 6 are my favourites, although I think they are all pretty cute. If any of these are working for you let me know and I will get started on orthographics and such.

@Alan Character Initial Sketches

I did some initial sketches using Jelly Jamm as the main inspiration, I think 5 and 6 are working for me. I quite like the idea of a smarter looking character as it fits in with the idea of a tutorial.

Adaptation B - Pop Princess Texturing #3

I carried on working on the characters texture, she is starting to look slightly more fit for purpose after every tweak. I noticed while posing her that I had some skinning flaws around the puffy shoulders so I have started to fix that so they deform better.

Adaptation B - Pop Princess Texturing #2

Today I finished off the rig and carried on working on the base textures, a demo video of the rig is on my check list, as is a posed turnaround of the character. Here is the base texture so far, a lot of work and detail needed, however she is definitely getting there.

I also spent a little bit of time today modelling and UVing the characters staff, this is how it looks.

getting closer to animating the different actions she would be able to perform in game, really looking forward to getting that started!

I did the orthographs for the pop character today so that next week I can start modelling her, I am super excited to get her finished and ready for animation.

Adaptation B - Pop Hair

I started trying to figure out the mesh for the characters hair, I think it is important that I solve how to model the mesh early so I will be more prepared when I start modelling.
